Liam was on his hands and knees, methodically scrubbing the kitchen floor. He hadn't stopped since reading the manuscript. The book had filled him with a strange, agitated energy. His movements were frantic.

He scrubbed and scrubbed, the sound of the brush against the tiles filling the apartment. It was a physical outlet for the tension that had knotted itself in his stomach. He didn’t know how to face her, how to process the information, the betrayal.

The door clicked open. He froze. Every muscle in his body stiffened. He didn't look up, just kept scrubbing, waiting.
